MD047 - Republican Debate ‘08

Presidential candidates Mike Huckabee, John McCain, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney from the Republican party sat down to debate with CNN’s Anderson Cooper today in California. We cut this 90 minute debate down to show a rather entertaining pattern in the candidate’s responses: it might have something to do with the event taking place in Reagan’s Presidential Library.

Also, since we’re all about people listening to politicians as little as possible, we’ve cut the whole thing down to 60 seconds.

Wow! Ask and ye shall receive … EXCELLENT!!! It appears that while Romney won the “evoke Reagan” use by a landslide, it also appears that Ron Paul is the one most willing to stand on his own without it … very interesting.

60 seconds to sum up the whole debate … and what did we discover? Huckabee is feeling left out … I wonder why he was placed after Paul in the line-up? Is this a “sign” of impending doom for his campaign? LOL

This is GREAT!!! Keep it up … you’re definitely on to something with these 60 second snip-n-clips.

Just a quick note on your “Digg” button … it appears to be leaving off the last of the URL, so I’m going to “digg” this manually.

Hah! That Reag-O-Meter piece was great. The best part is someone actually had to listen to the whole debate and tally it up.

    Nice work.

  4. Casey McKinnon Says:

I was SURE that Cooper would win! Wow…

Here is the entire debate video of the CNN Republican Debate from the Reagan Library in Simi Valley, California on January 30, 2008.

I get the appeal of this to liberals, progressives, and Democrats alike but to cover what these men have to say rather than chide them on their Reagen-ness would have been a fairer representation.

Romney and Huckabee are dangerous men who pander to the conservative base. Paul is thrilling in an adolescent way and McCain, while my pick, certainly has many flaws e.g. his social conservatism, which is appalling.

This doesn’t feel fair and balanced. I suppose no one is but start by making the attempt. If it’s just entertainment, job done - but if it’s political commentary, I think this one went for snarky and didn’t return to the political, or the commentary.

Udayan - Of course it’s meant to be fun. Lighten up a little! If you want to get the full story, there’s plenty of live blog coverage on the site as well. The day I start making any hardcore political commentary is the day that… well… let’s just say it’s not going to be happening on this show any time soon.

If we didn’t poke fun at our political process once in a while, we’d probably have all lost our minds by now.

I love the “in 60 seconds” series. It’s a lot like grabbing the newspaper and glancing at the headlines. If something catches your attention, then you can always go look up the details. Besides the entertainment, I think it highlights current events enough to stimulate that curiosity, which is a very good thing in my opinion.

Don’t overlook that you, as a commenter of the blog are an important part of the blog’s power. This is great information that I would not have had if the videos hadn’t caught my interest. That’s one of the things I love about the way we exchange information nowadays.

That’s another discussion entirely, and I’d appreciate if you stopped following me.
