MD079 - Tears of Joy Hot Sauce Shop

<-- View our previous episode!
On the last day of SXSW Interactive 2008 Veronica visited Tears of Joy, a legendary Hot Sauce shop on East 6th Street, Austin Texas. Established in 1988, the shop was originally a restaurant with a speciality for Tamales - since then it has moved to exclusively selling Hot Sauce, including a variety of sauces with some very “interesting” names.

Good episode guys, but I want to know Veronica, how the heck did you get hot sauce on your eyes?

This ending so reminded me of something similar with my friend a few years back. My brother whose name is “Dave” happened to have some Dave’s Insanity Sauce. We dared my friend to try it and ended up putting a little on a toothpick and he finally put it on his tongue. He then had to rub ice cubes on his mouth for the next hour.

I don’t imagine they are in any way connected with the hot sauce store at the Farmer’s Market in Los Angeles? And perhaps as good a way to get the heat off as milk, cold deli sausage - the Italian kind - something about the fat and grease gets it off your tongue.

Wow, I would have never thought that a normal restaurant would slowly switch over to a hotsauce place!
I didn’t even know about Scoville units for hotness before. How many scovilles was the sauce you tried? I can’t believe you did that!
